Rap Battles
In this workshop, children work with the language in an inspiring and fun way to create their own rap verses for use in ‘battle’ against one another. We are given rap names at the start of the class that children focus their verses on, in this way children are given a way of accessing colloquial and informal language in a way that isn't harmful or demotivating.
Activities Involved:
- Live music performance.
- Bestowing rap names with a wheel of fortune.
- Developing rhyme dictionary.
- Using the dictionary to develop battle verses.
- The workshop ends with rap battles taking place within the class.
Tradpop Workshop
This workshop involves musicianship and singing. Children will learn how to arrange traditional music and traditional melodies for pop compositions. They will get to make creative choices around harmony, write melodies and rhythms, and create a catchy song fusing the essence of tradition and effervesence of pop music in a fun and rewarding way.
Activites involved:
- Live performance of a relevant piece.
- Teaching a tradtional melody or breaking down a known melody for rearranging.
- Arranging the piece of music using both traditional instrumentation and contemprary elements.
- Writing words to accompany the resulting composition.
